Fashion Studies
India is known for its rich heritage for textiles and costumes, the global
interest and demand for Indian textile and craftsmanship has led to an
emergence of huge apparel industry for domestic market and export.
The large scale production of ready-to-wear clothing has led to setting up of
manufacturing units and export houses requiring trained professionals to lead
the design accuracy and product development and co-ordination, the Indian
apparel industry is spreading and growing by leaps and bounds providing
employment to over a million people, as a response to the above subject on
FASION STUDIES is being introduced at senior secondary as an independent
elective subject in the academic stream. A student have the option to take this
subject in combination with other subjects, the course portrays up-to-date
basic concepts, techniques, applications and class-room practical.
In our school, we have an practical lab for Fashion Studies, presently equipped
with 10 industrial sewing machines alongwith proper working conditions
required. Shortly a dress form and irons with ironing table would also be
included. To carry out practicals students are given –

Exercises using elements and principles of art and maintain a portfolio of it.

They are introduced to sewing machines and prepare fabric samples of various
seams finishes.

12th which includes:

Darts

Waste bands

Pockets
-
Plackets
-
Neck line finish
-
Sleeves
-
Collars
-
Sleeve & collar attachment to bodice

Construction of garment skirt and blouse using brown paper patterns.

Preparation of drafts and test fit to measurement of dress form.
